Russian Ambassador to Japan Mikhail Galuzin was summoned to the country’s Foreign Ministry, where he was protested in connection with the detention on September 26 of the Consul of the Japanese Consulate General in Vladivostok. This is reported by the Kyodo agency.

Foreign Minister Yoshimasu Hayashi said that Russia is violating the Vienna Convention, and this is absolutely unacceptable.

The Japanese MI also criticized the circumstances of the diplomat’s detention, during which, according to him, coercive measures were used.

Tokyo is demanding an official apology and taking steps to ensure that this does not happen again in the future. Hayashi added that the detainee had already been released.
