The goal of the exercise is to improve the tactical skills of the Maritime Forces and strengthen cooperation with the Naval Forces (Navy) of the United States and Canada, the statement said.
The exercises will run until August 28. They are attended by the Japanese Naval Forces destroyer Hyuga, from the US Navy – the destroyer Benfold, from the Canadian Navy – the frigates Ottawa and Vancouver, as well as the ship Asterix.
The events will be held in the area from the eastern coast of the Kuril Islands to the Japanese region of South Kanto.
In June, the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of Russia and the Air Force of the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA Air Force) held joint air patrols over the waters of the Japan and East China seas, the western part of the Pacific Ocean. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stressed that during the joint patrol, the aircraft did not violate the borders of the airspace of foreign states. The department also noted that the patrol was carried out as part of the implementation of the military cooperation plan for 2023.
