Italy criticized France for banning demonstrations in support of Palestine

France’s ban on demonstrations in support of Palestine is erroneous from the point of view of observing democratic norms, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Italian radio.
“France makes its own decisions, but it seems to me wrong to prohibit demonstrations in a democratic country, when these manifestations are not associated with violence, if there are no signs that they can get out of control,” – said he (quote for 20 minutes).
Earlier, rallies in support of Palestine were held in Italy, as well as a number of other European, Middle Eastern and North African countries, but some Western states, such as France, introduced bans on such rallies or limited the possibilities for their holding.
On October 7, Hamas militants invaded Israel, accusing its authorities of oppression and violations of the rights of Palestinians. The group attacked IDF border units and entered populated areas, taking military and civilian hostages. The IDF responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, initiating large-scale bombing of the Gaza Strip. The total number of deaths during the clashes exceeded 3,800 people.
