On September 7, Apple announced the iPhone 14 line, which will be sold in Russia through parallel imports. Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group, believes that the acquisition of new models of Apple smartphones in Russia will become “a tax on stupidity or luxury” due to too high prices for devices.
In conversation with NEWS.ru Murtazin said that for the first time Apple did not update the processor in the base models of the iPhone, namely 14 and 14 Plus, leaving the old one. In addition, according to the expert, they went to reduce the price, putting the Chinese memory. The specialist believes that Apple is actually selling a slightly modified iPhone 13 at a very high price, and the prices for 14 Pro and Pro Max are prohibitively high, especially in Europe. Murtazin gave an example that in Germany their cost reaches 1450 euros.
The specialist called the older line of luxury devices with minor changes that have long been known to Android smartphone users. According to Murtazin, for the first time the cameras on these devices were hidden not in the “bangs”, but in the screen, which was done on Android five years ago. As an IT expert noted, the new devices are marked by minor updates and a significant increase in price.
Murtazin doubted that PRO-models would be in demand in the context of the global crisis, especially since in Europe, in the world and in Russia, the most popular is the iPhone 11, with the departure of which it will take its place 12th. Thus, according to the specialist, the tendency will continue to be observed that the base iPhone two generations older than the novelty will be sold best of all due to the discount.
The IT expert added that in Russia one has to be a very big fan of Apple devices to buy them against the backdrop of all the restrictions. Murtazin explained that now it is impossible to pay for services normally, and without them, using the iPhone is almost impossible. He clarified that Apple Pay does not work, you cannot install banking applications or buy paid applications. Prices for parallel imports, according to the expert, are prohibitively high and represent “a tax on stupidity, on luxury.”
