According to political experts, the Kremlin does not plan to change the heads of Russian regions, which are facing elections this year; however, rotation in the gubernatorial corps may occur after the inauguration of the Russian president.

By according to sources Kommersant, Vladimir Putin met with the Astrakhan and Volgograd governors, whose powers expire this year – they received the go-ahead for nomination. Other heads of regions with expiring powers will also receive approval – an exception could be rotation, when the governor is sent to the federal government, and an official from there is sent to lead the region.

As Kommersant clarifies, in September 2024, 19 governors will confirm their powers. 16 of them are awaiting direct elections, another three are voting in parliament. At the same time, experts interviewed by the publication clarify that the forecast is preliminary and force majeure is possible.
