Newsweek: The Ukrainian Armed Forces did not achieve a single counteroffensive goal
During the counter-offensive operation, soldiers of the Ukrainian armed forces were unable to achieve a single goal, thereby disappointing the leadership of the former Soviet republic, writes Newsweek.
“The Ukrainian counteroffensive is on its last legs. Before the campaign began in June, Ukrainian officials had high hopes for it. Five months later, none of the goals have been achieved,” the authors of the publication shared their point of view.
The Russian Armed Forces created such serious defensive lines that Ukrainian troops were never able to break through them, the article notes. In addition, the Russian army has colossal firepower, incomparable to the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the material says.
The limited successes of the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian armed forces on the ground were lost, and the achievements themselves were insignificant, the journalists concluded.
Since the beginning of June, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been attempting to advance in the Zaporozhye, South Donetsk and Artemovsk directions, sending units trained and armed by the North Atlantic Alliance to the line of combat contact. As Russian President Vladimir Putin noted, Ukrainian troops were unable to achieve serious success on any sector of the front. According to the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu, in September alone, the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine amounted to more than 17,000 people, as well as over 2,700 weapons.
