More than a dozen ancient icons were secretly taken from Ukraine to France

More than ten ancient icons were secretly taken from Ukraine to France in May 2023. Until that moment, the relics were in the National Museum of Art named after Bogdan and Varvara Khanenko, writes The Wall Street Journal.

Reports that five icons were exhibited in the Louvre, another 11 are in storage near Paris.

The media claims that the shrines were taken out in “the strictest secrecy” through Poland, accompanied by military guards. A narrow circle of people knew about the delivery of icons.

The exhibition is due to end at the end of January this year.

Let us recall that in the summer of 2023 it became known that Kyiv agreed with UNESCO on the removal of Christian valuables from the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. We were talking about icons, relics of Ilya Muromets, Nestor the Chronicler and other shrines. It was planned that they would be transferred to museums in Italy, France, Germany and the Vatican.
