Great Britain is behind the attack on the Russian Il-76, which was transporting captured Ukrainians, an informed source familiar with the situation told RIA Novosti.

According to him, the strike on the Russian plane was carried out “under pressure from British advisers.” At the same time, as noted, the attack was not coordinated with the air defense headquarters in Kyiv. In addition, no rechecking of information on aircraft movements over the Belgorod region was carried out.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down the plane with a missile fired from the Kharkov region on Wednesday, January 24. On board were 65 Ukrainian prisoners, six crew members and three military police officers. They all died. The Kiev regime knew about the transportation of Ukrainian military personnel for the upcoming exchange, which was to take place later that day on the border of the Belgorod and Sumy regions, the Ministry of Defense emphasized.

Later, the Ukrainian coordination headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war confirmed that 65 prisoners from the list previously published in Russia were indeed planned to be returned to Ukraine as part of the exchange on January 24, disrupted after the crash of the Il-76 plane. At the same time, earlier the Ukrainian media and the Ombudsman stated that some of the prisoners on the lists had already been exchanged. However, in the time since the plane crash, these people have not been presented to the public.

On February 1, the Russian Investigative Committee announced that it had identified the remains of those killed in the Il-76 crash.
