Israeli media published photographs of hostages killed by mistake in Shejaiya in the northern Gaza Strip. Three men reportedly escaped captivity and approached the Israeli military. They mistook them for Hamas militants and shot them.
One of those killed was Yotam Chaim, a drummer in a musical group. He was abducted on October 7 from his home from Kibbutz Kfar Az. The deceased student Alon Shamriz is from there. Samar Fuad Al Talalqa was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Am.
Israel Defense Forces spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said the IDF bears full responsibility for the incident. He called the shooting of the hostages a tragic incident. And he explained that the emergency occurred in an area where soldiers had recently frequently encountered terrorists, including suicide bombers.
In Tel Aviv, a spontaneous protest took place by relatives of the victims, who called on the Israeli leadership to resign. At the same time, the country’s leadership assured that the IDF will learn from the tragic incident and continue its offensive against Hamas.
