Israel opens new checkpoint for humanitarian aid supplies to Gaza Strip

Israel has opened a checkpoint for the supply of humanitarian aid to the northern Gaza Strip, The Jerusalem Post reports, citing an IDF communiqué.

The first trucks loaded with food, according to the Israel Defense Forces, have already passed through the open checkpoint, having passed security checks.

On the morning of October 7, 2024, Hamas fighters infiltrated the border areas of southern Israel, killing and taking hostage many civilians and military personnel, and launched more than 3,000 rockets into the country. The number of victims was at least 1,400 people, most of them civilians. Many of the dead were participants in the music festival. The attack was the largest mass murder of Jews since the Holocaust. In response, Israel launched Operation Iron Swords against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
