According to information published by Bloomberg, the Islamic Republic of Iran intends to purchase S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems from Russia. At the moment, Moscow has not yet agreed to the supply.
Against the backdrop of the Ukrainian crisis, Russia and Iran have moved closer to each other, the article notes. Thus, according to the statement of the representative of the US National Security Council, John Kirby, military cooperation between Russia and Iran has reached an unprecedented level, especially in the field of missiles, electronics and air defense.
According to Bloomberg, the S-400 systems can be put on combat duty only two years after the conclusion of the agreement. After that, striking Iranian nuclear facilities will be extremely difficult.
Some Israeli and American sources indicate that the agreement on the supply of S-400 will significantly speed up the preparation of a military strike on Iran. At the same time, they should offer to take into account the risk of unleashing a large-scale regional war.
The S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system was developed by NPO Almaz and began production in Russia in 2012-2013. It is designed to fight both aircraft and enemy missiles, including hypersonic targets. In addition to Russia, S-400 complexes are supplied to China, India and Turkey.
