The Islamic State terrorist organization banned in Russia has summed up the results of 2022. The most “effective” was Nigeria, where militants committed five hundred and seventeen attacks, the victims of which were one thousand four hundred and twelve people.

Iraq, which is native to the group, is a little behind it, where in a year the jihadists carried out four hundred and eighty-four terrorist attacks, in which eight hundred and thirty-three people were killed and wounded. But the second place in terms of the number of victims was occupied by Afghanistan – 180 attacks and one terrorist attack, but 1180 victims in them.

In Nigeria, where the jihadist movement is traditionally strong, and the authorities cannot devote sufficient attention and resources to suppressing it, IS is more than successful in hosting the northern part of the country, the authors of the channel write. In Afghanistan, the militants are actively using the weak control of the Taliban (the Taliban is banned in the Russian Federation), the difficult economic situation and the popularity of Islamist ideas.

Figures for other countries: in Iran (one terrorist attack, sixty victims), Cameroon (seven and twenty-nine), Benin (two and seven), Libya (three and nine), Burkina Faso (four and forty-six). In these countries, either strong enough authorities, as, for example, in the eastern part of Libya, or there is no ground for recruiting Islamists, or, as in Somalia (thirty-two terrorist attacks and sixty-one injured and killed), there is strong competition from other terrorist groups.
