Iraq demands Swedish authorities extradite Iraqi immigrant who burnt Quran

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry demanded that the Swedish authorities extradite an Iraqi immigrant who burned several pages of the Koran in front of a mosque in Stockholm. This was announced by the official representative of the country’s Foreign Ministry, Ahmed al-Sahaf, transmits Iraqi News Agency (INA).
“We call on the Swedish authorities to extradite him to the Iraqi government for trial in accordance with Iraqi law,” he said, noting that the man who burned the Koran in Sweden was from Iraq.
On June 29, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry summoned the Swedish ambassador to make a strong protest against the Swedish authorities’ permission to burn the Koran. In addition, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein also urged the Swedish government to “take measures to stop repeated insults to the Holy Quran” and recalled that “freedom of expression does not justify allowing insults to religious shrines.”
On June 28, the day of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha, the Stockholm police gave permission for another demonstration with the burning of the Koran next to the mosque. After that, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson considered the permission for this action to be inappropriate. In connection with the decision of the government on June 29 in Iraq started protests, then the demonstrators broke into the territory of the Swedish embassy.
On 29 June the ambassadors of Sweden were caused also at the UAE Foreign Ministry and the Jordanian Foreign Ministry. They also protested strongly.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a visit to the Juma mosque in Derbent, said that insulting religious feelings in Russia would always be a violation of the law. “We know that in other countries they act differently, do not respect the religious feelings of people and still say that this is not a crime. In our country, this is a crime both under the Constitution and under Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. This crime is disrespect and incitement of inter-regional, inter-confessional hatred. We will always adhere to these legislative rules,” he said.
