Iranian President to visit Saudi Arabia amid restoration of diplomatic relations

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi will pay an official visit to Saudi Arabia. This was announced by the first vice-president of the republic Mohammad Mokhber.
“King Salman invited the president [Ирана посетить Эр-Рияд]this invitation was answered positively,” he said (quote according to TASS). The date of the visit is not specified.
On March 19, Iranian Deputy Chief of Staff for Political Affairs Mohammad Jamshidi tweeted that King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia had invited the Iranian president to visit Riyadh. According to him, Raisi “welcome to receive this invitation” and noted Iran’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Saudi Arabia.
March 10 Iran and Saudi Arabia through the mediation of China Deal on the normalization of relations and the opening of embassies within two months. In the statement, the countries also agreed to respect sovereignty and not interfere in each other’s internal affairs.
Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations with Iran in January 2016 following the attack by Iranian protesters on the Saudi embassy in Tehran, which followed the execution of Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr in the kingdom.
Dialogue between the two regional powers resumed in April 2021. During that year, the parties held four meetings in Baghdad. As Tasnim notes, several rounds of negotiations took place in 2022.
