An Iranian military delegation headed by the commander of the ground forces, Brigadier General Kiyumars Heydari, arrived in Moscow to discuss cooperation in the line of the ground forces. This was reported in the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry.
During the talks, the parties discussed issues of military cooperation and interaction aimed at implementing projects to increase the combat readiness of the Armed Forces of Russia and Iran. As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to increase cooperation in various fields.
According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Ground Forces, General of the Army Oleg Salyukov, Moscow views Tehran as Russia’s strategic partner in the Middle East. “Permanent intensive political dialogue is a characteristic feature of the current stage of our partnership,” Salyukov stressed.
The Iranian military delegation arrived in Moscow on August 21. Before the start of negotiations, a flower-laying ceremony was held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the city center. During their visit, the Iranian delegation will also visit the universities of the ground forces and enterprises of the defense industry.
This is not the first visit of a high-ranking military man to Russia. In particular, at the end of June, at the invitation of the Russian side to Moscow arrived a delegation led by Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Law Enforcement Forces, Ahmad Reza Radan. During the talks, the parties expressed their readiness to exchange experience in the fight against drug trafficking, terrorism and organized smuggling, as well as in the fight against various crimes.
