Iran will participate in the SCO summit as a full member from 2023

Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said on Tuesday that Iran will be able to participate in the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a full member of the organization as early as next year.
Ushakov said that “the current summit in Samarkand will be unique in terms of the number of applications being considered from other states that are ready to join the SCO in various formats.”
In Samarkand, a memorandum on Iran’s obligations in order to obtain membership in the SCO will be signed. And after Tehran fulfills these obligations, it will participate as a full member at the next summit. As Ushakov noted, in 2023 India will bring together “not eight, but nine members” of the SCO.
Also in Samarkand, the process of registration of membership in the SCO of Belarus will also begin.
The assistant to the President of the Russian Federation also said that “memorandums on dialogue partnership will be signed, which are assigned to Egypt, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.”
Decisions to launch the procedure for granting a similar status will be made in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Maldives and Myanmar.
Ushakov noted the great interest in participation in the SCO from other countries.
