Iran drafts bill to punish refusing to wear hijab

The Iranian parliament is developing a bill: if it is passed, women who do not wear a hijab will not be provided with social services. Musa Gazanfarabadi, Chairman of the Commission on Judicial and Legal Affairs of the Parliament, announced the prepared legislative initiative.

With the help of video surveillance systems, it is proposed to identify women who do not wear a headscarf at pedestrian crossings and in other public places, and then file a violation against them. “As a result, social services will not be provided to these people,” Gazanfarabadi was quoted as saying by the Khabar Online agency.

A gradual punishment is provided, which begins with the first warning by SMS and ends, in case of disobedience, with the blocking of the violator’s national card.
