In 2024, 880 billion rubles are provided for financing projects in the National Welfare Fund (NWF), said RBC First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Economic Development Ilya Torosov. At the end of last year, more than 1.1 trillion rubles were invested from the National Welfare Fund.

Among the projects that the authorities intend to finance at the expense of the National Welfare Fund, Ilya Torosov named the construction of Russia’s largest gas liquefaction plant in Ust-Luga (392 billion rubles). “There is also a request for railway infrastructure in the Krasnodar and Nizhny Novgorod agglomerations, projects for the development of urban electric trains. About 2 billion rubles are planned for this. in 2024,” said Mr. Torosov.

In 2023, more than 1.1 trillion rubles were invested from the National Welfare Fund. In particular, 586 billion rubles were allocated for infrastructure projects. This is 42% more than in 2022, noted the first deputy head of the Ministry of Economic Development. Also financed was the construction of a further section of the M-12 Kazan-Ekaterinburg highway (RUB 116.2 billion), additional capitalization of Dom.RF for the development of the affordable rental housing program in the Far Eastern Federal District (RUB 87 billion) and the development of the railway infrastructure of the central customs management (RUB 86.8 billion).

In January, the volume of the National Welfare Fund decreased by 42.7 billion rubles. and as of February 1 made up 11 trillion 922.371 billion rubles, or 6.6% of GDP projected for 2023. At the end of last year, the volume of the National Welfare Fund decreased by 10% in dollars, from $148.35 billion to $133.4 billion. At the same time, in rubles, due to the devaluation of the national currency, the National Welfare Fund increased – from 10.435 trillion to 11.965 trillion rubles, that is, by 15 %.
