Investigation and familiarization with the materials of Furgal’s “economic” case completed

In the “economic” case of the ex-governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Sergey Furgal, the investigation and familiarization with the materials have been completed, the defendant’s lawyer Mikhail Karapetyan said. TASS. According to him, in the near future the case will be sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office for approval of the indictment. After determining jurisdiction, the materials will be submitted to the court for consideration on the merits.
Furgal is charged with 17 episodes of a crime in an “economic” case. It is associated with the Amurstal plant and initiated under Art. 210 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (organization of a criminal community), several episodes of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud) and Art. 289 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal participation in business activities). Other defendants are involved in the case. All of them are charged with damage in excess of 3 billion rubles. Nobody pleaded guilty.
Sergey Furgal headed the Khabarovsk Territory from 2018 to 2020. His resignation after being taken into custody led to massive protests in the region. On February 10, 2023, the ex-governor was found guilty of two contract killings and assassination attempts and sentenced to 22 years in a strict regime colony. The defense considered the sentence unlawful and unreasonable.
