Inflation in the US in February amounted to 3.2% – Kommersant

Consumer prices in the US rose by 3.2% year on year in February. Such data today, March 12, submitted US Department of Labor. Thus, inflation turned out to be slightly higher than analysts’ forecasts, which expected 3.1%. Compared to January, prices in February increased by 0.4%.

The most significant increase in February – by 3.8% compared to the previous month – was shown by gasoline prices. Energy prices overall increased by 2.3%. Prices for transport services increased by 1.4% compared to January, for housing – by 0.4%. Overall, prices for services increased by 0.5%. At the same time, food prices, including eating out, remained at January levels, and prices for new cars decreased by 0.1%.

Despite the fact that inflation is slightly above expectations for the second time in a row, analysts predict that the Federal Reserve will begin cutting its key rate in the summer. Since March 2022, the Fed has raised it by a total of 525 points, now it is at the level of 5.25–5.50%.
