Consumer inflation in 19 eurozone countries in August set a record for the entire existence of the single European currency (since January 1, 1999), follows from Eurostat data published on August 31. It reached 9.1% year on year.
As in July, the key factor behind the rise in prices was expensive energy resources. Their contribution to inflation in August amounted to 38.3% (slightly lower than in July – 39.6%). The share of food, alcohol and tobacco products amounted to 10.6% compared to 9.8% a month earlier. Rental housing, clothing prices – 5% (4.5% in July), services – 3.8% (3.7%).
