Inflation in the euro area, according to preliminary calculations Eurostat, according to the results of October, amounted to 2.9% on an annual basis. The last time inflation in the eurozone fell below this level was in July 2021, when it was 2.2%. Analysts surveyed by Bloomberg expected inflation to slow to 3.1% in October. In September, consumer price growth year-on-year made up 4.3%, which then became the lowest figure in the last two years.
Among all categories of goods, food, alcohol and tobacco rose in price the most in October. Their prices increased by 7.5% compared to last year. At the same time, in September, inflation in this category of goods amounted to 8.8%. The inflation rate in the services sector remained approximately the same – 4.6% in October versus 4.7% in September. Only energy prices continue to fall in the eurozone: a 4.7% decline in September was followed by a fall of 11.1% in October, which is explained by a sharp increase in electricity prices in Europe last fall.
