Indian Navy frees 19 Pakistani sailors captured by pirates in Arabian Sea

Indian Navy vessel Sumitra successfully freed the ship from pirates Al Naeemi and its 19 crew members, all of whom are Pakistani citizens. According to IndiaTV, the ship received an SOS signal after the ship was hijacked by 11 Somali pirates.

The rescue operation took place on Monday and all crew members were successfully rescued. Details of the operation have not been disclosed.

The Indian Navy’s patrol ship Sumitra is actively deployed to combat piracy and provide maritime security in the Gulf of Aden and east of Somalia. This is the second operation against pirates that this Indian ship has carried out in recent days. 36 hours before this operation, Sumitra rescued the fishing vessel Iman with 17 crew on board, forcing the pirates to release both the vessel and its crew.
