India is interested in strengthening partnership with Russia in the field of energy

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Russia could become an important partner for the Indian steel industry. He stated that New Delhi is interested in strengthening cooperation with Moscow, in particular in the field of energy and Arctic issues. India, according to the minister, has made significant investments in pharmaceuticals and the diamond industry in the Russian Far East.

“India is interested in strengthening partnership with Russia on many issues, including those related to the Arctic. We also have huge opportunities for cooperation in the energy sector,” Mr. Modi said at the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF).

He stated that Russia could become an important partner for the Indian metallurgical industry through the supply of coking coal. The minister added that the countries can also establish cooperation in the field of transit of specialists.

“It should be noted that talented Indians have contributed to the development of many resource rich regions around the world. I am sure that the talent and professionalism of the Indians can lead to the rapid development of the Russian Far East,” he said.

Yesterday, September 6, Indian Oil and Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri declaredthat his country will study the proposal of the G7 countries to introduce a ceiling price on Russian oil. Import of Russian oil to India increased 50 times from April to June of this year. Thus, Russia has become the second largest exporter of fuel to the country.
