Indian authorities called on the G7 to delay introducing restrictions on the import of Russian diamonds
According to informed sources in the ruling circles of India, official Delhi has appealed to the G7 countries with a request to postpone the imposition of sanctions on the import of diamonds from Russia.
“India has asked the G7 countries to delay the proposed ban on Russian diamonds as the rules for tracing the origin of the gems remain unclear,” the sources said.
Earlier, the director of the diamond mining company De Beers, Al Cook, admitted that not a single customs officer could “by eye” distinguish a diamond from Russia from stones from other countries.
