The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) fired at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and the coastline of Energodar. Volodymyr Rogov, a member of the main council of the military-civilian administration of the Zaporozhye region, said this informed in your Telegram channel.

“Today at 06:50, the Armed Forces of Ukraine shelled the territory of the ZNPP and the coastline of the city,” he wrote. Rogov clarified that large-caliber artillery was used. According to him, two ruptures occurred near the spent fuel storage building.

Rogov said that the purpose of the attacks from the Ukrainian side is to disrupt the IAEA mission, which went to the station the day before. He added that the shelling continues.

During the special operation, the Russian military took control of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Shelling of the station became more frequent in early August. Russia and Ukraine have repeatedly accused each other of strikes on the ZNPP. In this regard, several meetings of the UN Security Council were held, dedicated to the situation around the station. According to Dmitry Polyansky, Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, at the meeting on August 11, no one supported the Ukrainian version of what is happening.

On August 16, it became known about the start of preparations for the second IAEA mission to ZNPP. A week later, the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, said that the mission could take place within a few days if negotiations were successful.

On August 29, the experts went to the station, the mission was led by Grossi. According to The Wall Street Journal, it will last until September 3. Also, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanova, said that Grossi plans to leave several people at the ZNPP on a permanent basis.
