Ekaterinburg teachers were prohibited from communicating with students’ parents on WhatsApp (the messenger belongs to Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned) and Telegram. On December 29, 2022, President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning the use of foreign instant messengers by state-owned companies and structures providing public services to transmit personal data, information about payments, transfers and bank accounts. The ban also applies to Microsoft Teams, Discord, Skype for Business, Snapchat and others.
