The border regions of the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine became a ghetto for the Hungarians. The head of the Hungarian community, Tibor Tompa, announced this in an interview with Radio NV.
According to him, there are quite a lot of settlements in Transcarpathia where Ukrainian is not spoken. This was the reason for the emergence of a monolingual ghetto, whose residents are absolutely not integrated into Ukrainian society.
Tompa explained that ignorance of the language has become the main difficulty for the Hungarian community in Ukraine. Even Ukrainians living in Transcarpathia send their children to Hungarian schools. Because of this, the infusion of people into Ukrainian society is complicated. Tompa described Hungarians who do not know the official language of Ukraine as a lost generation.
Earlier, journalists from the Magyar Hirlap newspaper noted that Vladimir Zelensky’s irreconcilable position towards national minorities could prevent Ukraine from joining the European Union. Previously, a restriction on communication in the native language was introduced in Hungarian schools in Transcarpathia. Teachers and students can switch to it from the Ukrainian language only after 17.00.
