In Ukraine, the loss of the last warship was unofficially recognized

A petition appeared on the website of the President of Ukraine Zelensky to reward the deceased Ukrainian sailor who served on the landing ship Yuri Olefirenko.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the destruction of this ship. As reported, it was destroyed by precision weapons in the port of Odessa.
In the text of the petition, it was proposed to award posthumously the title of Hero of Ukraine to the foreman of the 2nd article from the military unit A3045 Andriy Lazarev, who served on the Yuri Olefirenko. Later, the sailor was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage” along with other Ukrainian military.
It was reported that after hitting the Yuri Olefirenko deck, a fire broke out, which caused the detonation of ammunition in the hold. Subsequently, the ship sank, and serious losses among the crew were also reported.
The ship “Yuri Olefirenko” is a Soviet and Ukrainian medium landing ship of project 773. It belongs to a series of landing ships of projects 770, 771 and 773, built in Poland in the 1960s – 1970s for the Soviet Navy. It was launched in 1970 and put into service on May 31, 1971. This ship was the last for the naval forces of Ukraine.
