In Ukraine, candidates have been selected who will be sent to train in the operation of Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, said Yuriy Ignat, a representative of the command of the Ukrainian Air Force.
Ignat said that graduates of the Kharkiv Air Force University, “having combat experience, the prospect of military service,” will be sent for training.
According to him, the training will take place on the territory of one of the NATO countries. He said that earlier, according to the same scheme, training of the Ukrainian military complexes Iris-T and NASAMS was organized, and they learned to use them “in a few weeks.”
Ignat also said that the preparation may be delayed, since the Patriot air defense system is “more powerful equipment and long-range.” In his opinion, the training will take 2-3 months.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden, following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, confirmed that Ukraine would receive Patriot systems from the United States. At the same time, Washington refused to grant Kyiv’s other requests for weapons, including battle tanks, fighter jets and long-range missiles. It will take several months for the Ukrainian military to properly master the Patriot systems, CNN told CNN, citing an unnamed senior Pentagon official.
The command of the Air Force of Ukraine reported that the armed formations of Ukraine will not use the Patriot air defense systems received from the United States against Geran drones, except for “exceptional cases.” One Patriot air defense system costs $450-550 million, and one missile for it costs about $4 million.
