The National Muslim Democratic Council (NMDC) demanded that US President Joe Biden and his administration achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip by November 1, such an ultimatum published on the organization’s website.

“The situation in Gaza has reached a critical point, bordering on a complete humanitarian disaster, and we implore you to take immediate action to ensure a ceasefire,” the statement said.

In their ultimatum, the authors note the Biden administration’s “significant role” in the ongoing violence in the Middle East, which has killed thousands of civilians and undermined Muslim trust in the Democratic Party. If the White House does not achieve a ceasefire, then NMDC activists promise to “mobilize” their supporters so that they refrain from any election endorsement of Democratic candidates who supported the Israeli army offensive in Gaza and did not advocate a ceasefire.

“We will mobilize increased voter turnout to make our voices heard,” warn NMDC members.

The organization demands, in addition to the cessation of hostilities, the creation of a humanitarian corridor for the residents of Gaza, and the lifting of the blockade of the strip organized by Israel, due to which people were deprived of food and water.

According to the NMDC website, the main tasks of this organization are to promote legislative initiatives and views of the Democratic Party, support its candidates in elections and unite Muslim democrats.

How notes Reuters, The Muslim Democratic Council includes prominent Democratic Party figures in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. The authors of the initiative themselves recalled that Democrats won the 2020 presidential election in Michigan with a margin of only 2.6%. Almost 1.1 million Muslims took part in that election, and according to exit polls, 64% of them voted for Biden. Earlier, Arab and Muslim communities in the United States expressed disappointment due to Biden’s failure to condemn Israel’s strikes on Gaza, the agency points out.

The Palestinian group Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7. The Israeli military responded by launching Operation Iron Swords. According to the latest data, more than 9,000 people have died as a result of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Gaza reported 8,005 dead in the Israeli strikes, and about 1,400 people were killed in Israel after the group’s attack. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on October 31 the start of the third stage of the military operation against Hamas.
