Media: US Army Spent Billions and Canceled Future Helicopter Program
Despite spending billions, the US Army has canceled the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA) helicopter program, writes Defense News.
Reportedly, the cancellation of the project may be due to the analysis of the use of helicopters during the Russian air defense in Ukraine.
The article states that the amount spent amounted to $2 billion, while another $5 billion was requested for further development. But now the program has officially stopped.
It is also reported that the US military will get rid of its existing fleet of Shadow and Raven drones. In addition, the purchase deadline for the next generation helicopter engine, which was to be installed on both future and existing helicopters, has been postponed.
Defense News writes that the freed up funds are planned to be allocated to Black Hawk and CH-47F Block II Chinook helicopters, as well as expanding the reconnaissance capabilities of drones.
