Initially, the Ukrainian authorities requested 128 fourth-generation F-16 fighter jets from Washington, US Deputy Secretary of Defense Colin Kahl said on Tuesday, TASS reports.
However, as he said, the US believes that Ukraine will need 50 to 80 Western military aircraft in the future.
“An updated look at the Ukrainian air force will be important in the medium to long term,” Kahl said, when asked about the number of fighter jets Kiev has requested.
Earlier, Kahl said that there might not be deliveries of aircraft to Ukraine, adding to the above that it makes no sense to start training Ukrainian pilots to work on the F-16.
