In the Tula region, a citizen of Ukraine was sentenced to 16 years in a case of espionage

The Tula Regional Court sentenced a citizen of Ukraine to 16 years in a strict regime colony in a case of espionage. About it reported in the joint press service of the courts of the region.
The court found that in the period from January 26, 2020 to August 19, 2021, the man was in Tula and at that time collected information constituting a state secret in order to subsequently transfer it to a foreign state.
The maximum punishment under the article on espionage (Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), under which the man was found guilty, is up to 20 years in prison. It is clarified that the verdict has not yet entered into force and can be appealed.
About the detention of a citizen of Ukraine in Tula became known in August 2021. According to the FSB, the man tried to find out information about Russian weapons and for this purpose, among other things, was recruiting employees of defense enterprises.
