In the Kaliningrad region, a state of emergency (ES) of a regional nature was introduced due to drought. About it informed Governor of the region Anton Alikhanov in his Telegram channel.
The decision was made at an extraordinary meeting of the Commission for the Prevention and Elimination of Emergencies. The governor explained that such a measure is due to the death of crops. In May, only about 5.5% of precipitation from the climatic norm fell in the Kaliningrad region.
“Such a long dry period has led to a dangerous phenomenon – soil drought. According to the forecast, no rain is expected. In addition, due to the lack of precipitation, an emergency level of fire danger in the forests is gradually being established in the region,” the head of the region wrote. He specified that additional measures will be introduced in the region to mitigate the effects of the drought.
In the regional government clarifiedthat such a drought occurred in the region for the first time in the history of weather observations. The heat will continue in the coming days, rain is expected only in mid-June.
Minister of Agriculture of the region Natalya Shevtsova noted that the region will need additional costs to ensure economic security.
The region has a ban on visiting forests until the end of June. The authorities of the municipalities were instructed to be ready to organize the supply of water if the wells dry up.
