In Poland, a citizen of Ukraine was detained in the case of espionage in favor of Russia

Employees of the Polish Internal Security Agency detained a citizen of Ukraine in the case of spying for Russia, he was charged with participation in an organized criminal group and carrying out actions against the interests of Poland. The court subsequently arrested the man due to the high risk of absconding. It turned out to be a citizen of Ukraine who has lived in Poland since 2019. According to the investigation, he could observe the critical infrastructure of the country, including military installations and seaports. For this, he allegedly received a monetary reward.

The Prosecutor General’s Office clarified that the man was detained at the direction of the Lublin Department of the National Prosecutor’s Office, which was investigating a spy network that collaborated with Russian intelligence. Now a citizen of Ukraine faces imprisonment for up to 10 years. According to the Polish Press Agency (PAP), the detention took place 21st of June.

30 June Prosecutor General’s Office of Poland reported about the arrest of a Russian hockey player from the “club of the first league”. His name is not specified. Izvestia writes that we can talk about 20-year-old Maxim Sergeev, a player in the Zaglemba club. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the athlete, who has lived in Poland since October 2021, collected information about critical infrastructure in several voivodships, and also transferred it to “his clients”, for which he received a reward. It is specified that he became the 14th detainee as part of the investigation of the spy network.

Detentions for spying for Russia in Poland began to be reported in April 2022. At that time, three people were arrested – citizens of Russia and Belarus, who were allegedly collecting data on military units. March 16, 2023 were detained nine more foreigners who, according to the prosecutor’s office, monitored the railways and allegedly prepared for sabotage in order to “paralyze the supply” of weapons to Ukraine. March 27 became known about another detainee on suspicion of espionage, he admitted his guilt.
