In Moscow, the activities of fraudulent call centers that worked in the interests of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) were stopped. About it informs “RIA Novosti” with reference to the department of the FSB of Russia in Moscow and the Moscow region.
The department also showed a video of the detention at the organization’s office. According to the FSB, the scammers set up call centers whose employees tricked them into stealing money from Russian and foreign citizens. Then the funds were cashed out, converted into cryptocurrency and transferred through anonymous crypto wallets to the accounts of recipients in Ukraine.
It is noted that in some cases, fraudsters resorted to moral pressure on the victims in order to get them out of the “state of psychological balance” and push them to commit a crime. The FSB added that most often the scammers contacted people living abroad, including in Germany, Italy and France.
A criminal case has been opened against the detainees under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud). The maximum punishment under the article is up to 10 years in prison with a fine of up to 1 million rubles. The circumstances of the crimes are now being established, the department said.
In April, the FSB reported on the detention of a suspect in treason in Khabarovsk. According to the service, the detainee transferred money to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) for weapons, ammunition and uniforms.
Also in early March, on suspicion of financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the FSB delayed a resident of Moscow. It was noted that she tried to leave the country. A case was also initiated against the woman under Art. 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (treason).
