The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine (MCIP) announced that it had reached an agreement with the Allard Pearson Museum in the Netherlands on the transfer of a collection of Scythian gold to the Ukrainian side. Previously, the exhibits were located in Amsterdam. This was reported on the social networks of the Ministry of Culture.
“Since 2014 they (Scythian gold – approx. ed.) were exhibited at the exhibition “Crimea – a golden island in the Black Sea” at the archaeological museum of the University of Amsterdam,” the publication says.
The department also added that the Dutch museum refused to collect from the Ukrainian side the cost for storing exhibits for nine years.
Earlier, the head of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, suggested that collection of Scythian gold from Crimean museums may turn out to be private Western collectors. Thus, there was a risk that the jewelry “might dissolve.”
The Supreme Court of the Netherlands confirmed the decision of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal, according to which the collection of Scythian gold should be transferred to Ukraine.
