The official representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Oleg Nikolenko, rejected the Indonesian peace plan, which provides for the creation of a demilitarized zone and the deployment of UN peacekeepers in the country. Nikolenko confirmed the position of Kyiv on the need to withdraw Russian troops and opposed the organization of a referendum, writes Reuters.
Plan for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine introduced earlier at the Shangri-La Dialogue Security Conference in Singapore, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto. In particular, Indonesia offered Moscow and Kyiv an immediate ceasefire and a 15 km retreat from their current positions in each direction to create a demilitarized zone. “The UN should organize and hold a referendum in the disputed territories in order to objectively confirm the will of the majority of the inhabitants,” he said. Subianto also said that the Indonesian authorities are ready to send their military to Ukraine to participate in the UN peacekeeping mission.
Nikolenko said any proposals for a ceasefire would ostensibly allow Russia to regroup and build up forces.
On February 24, 2023, China presented its plan to exit the Ukrainian conflict, which includes 12 points, including respect for the sovereignty of all countries, the cessation of hostilities, the start of peace negotiations, etc. Western countries and official Kyiv rejected this plan, among other things, because it included a ceasefire clause.
