Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko called unacceptable the statement of US Republican Congressman Paul Gozar that Ukrainians are “cannon fodder”.
Earlier, the following statement appeared on Gozar’s website: “The world has seen enough death and destruction between Russia and Ukraine. Western countries do not seem to mind using Ukrainians as cannon fodder and are not interested in de-escalation.”
As Nikolenko wrote on social media, the United States is well aware of the values for which the Ukrainian people are fighting – “freedom, democratic development, the rule of law and respect for human rights.”
According to him, questioning the support of Ukraine is tantamount to allowing “the continuation of the killing of Ukrainians and the destruction of democracy.” He also hoped that the statements of individual congressmen would not affect the continued bipartisan support of Ukraine by the United States.
Earlier, the American media reported on the emerging split among the US elites on the issue of support for Ukraine.
