A shield belonging to a medieval nomad was found on the territory of Khakassia. As reported on the website Khakass State Universitybattle shields are rarely found by archaeologists, since in the Middle Ages the tradition was widespread to place shields in burial places, and the materials from which the shields were made are short-lived.
The shield was found on board a steppe ravine in the Ust-Abakan region. It is assumed that it belongs to the XII-XVI centuries. It consists of 14 trapezoidal metal plates, their inner side is decorated with triangular jagged patterns.
The discovery made it possible to find out what kind of battle shields the nomads of the Khakassian steppes used, archaeologists said.
Also, with the help of the shield, it was possible to obtain information about the interaction of the military spheres of South Siberia and Central Asia.
