The authorities of the Kaliningrad region consider the statement of Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu about the ban on entry into the country for Russian citizens “a manifestation of genocide.” About this “RIA Novosti” told in the press service of the Governor of the Kaliningrad region Anton Alikhanov.
“The Baltic States and Poland still have not released clarifications on the mechanics of actions. There are no new details, except for the start date of the ban. And Reinsalu’s statement is a manifestation of genocide, there is no other way to call it,” said Dmitry Lyskov, head of the press service.
Earlier today, Reinsalu said Estonia would close its land border to Russians from September 19. He clarified that the restrictive measure would apply “regardless of which state issued the Schengen visa.” The ban applies to tourists; Russians who are visiting relatives can cross the border. The minister added that the call to Russian citizens is: “Do not come to Estonia with Schengen visas, you are not welcome here!”
The day before, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics said that Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia had reached an agreement in principle to restrict the entry of Russians. According to the minister, the governments of the Baltic states will announce the restrictions in the coming days.
On August 31, a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the EU countries was held in Prague, at which, among other things, the issue of a ban on issuing visas to Russian citizens was discussed. As a result of the meeting, the EU countries decided to terminate the simplified procedure for issuing visas. Later, the foreign ministers of Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia said they intended to take additional measures on their own. In particular, they announced plans to temporarily ban the issuance of visas to Russian citizens, as well as their entry with visas from other EU countries.
