Tasnim: Iranian police to enforce hijab rules

In Iran, the police have sent foot and vehicle patrols to the streets to ensure that women wear the hijab correctly.

The Tasnim agency reports that the police will patrol the streets and issue warnings to those who break the rules. And the citizens who refuse to obey the order will be judged.

Such measures will, as law enforcement officials explained, “promote social cohesion.”

The vice police used to monitor how women in Iran wear hijabs, but in December last year, after mass protests, it was abolished. The reason for the mass demonstrations was the death of a 22-year-old student, Mahsa Amini, who was taken to the police station for “re-education” because of the wrong hijab.

In early April, a video appeared on social media in which a man doused yogurt on two women in a store for going bareheaded. In the spring, smart video cameras were installed on the streets and in public places in Iran to detect women without hijabs, Reuters reported.
