Budapest called on the EU to spend money on Africa and the Balkans instead of Ukraine
The EU should have used funds from the European Peace Fund to support its interests in the Balkans and North Africa instead of supporting Ukraine. This was stated by the government of Hungary, reports RIA Novosti.
The Cabinet of Ministers of the country announced that Budapest will block the allocation of the next tranche to Ukraine, as it does not agree with the direction of all-European funds exclusively to help Kyiv.
“In order to defend the interests of the EU in other regions, for example, in the Balkans, in the Sahel zone, in North Africa, there would not have been enough funds in this way,” the Hungarian government said. They also said that clarification of these issues is of “key importance” for Budapest.
Earlier, Hungary blocked the allocation of 0.5 billion euros to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund. In Budapest, they said that the fund should play a “global role” and not be used exclusively to arm Kyiv.
