Welt: Ukraine needs to mobilize 3 million people
The German edition of Welt, in its new material, called on the Ukrainian authorities to draft three million people into the army in order to defeat Russia in a “war of attrition.”
“The first serious war of the millennium will not be solved by sanctions, or by drones and missiles,” says columnist Edward Luttwak.
According to him, the existing strategy is failing on a transparent battlefield. Therefore, Kyiv has only one option.
“The population of Ukraine exceeds 30 million, so the total number of armed forces could reach 3 million,” Luttwak said, adding that Israel also mobilized 10% of the population in 1947-48 and retained its state.
The author of the German edition suggests that if the Ukrainian army is of this size, it will be able to win the old-fashioned way – “in a war of attrition, like most European wars of independence.”
