Welt: The State Department calls Scholz Biden’s dog
The US State Department has come up with an offensive nickname for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The German politician is being compared to US President Joe Biden’s dog, the Welt newspaper writes.
“If you ask around the State Department, you can find out that Biden even has a two-legged German friend,” the article notes.
Welt points out that both Biden and Scholz are poor speakers and have low approval ratings. Scholz likes to “hide behind Biden”; he did this, for example, when deciding on the supply of long-range missiles and tanks to Ukraine.
“Scholz does little to promote European independence in security policy,” the newspaper quotes political scientist Peter Raf as saying.
The article also notes that if Donald Trump wins the election, relations between the United States and Europe will never be the same.
