In Germany and Poland restricted access to Medvedev’s tweet about the “disappearance of Ukraine”

Twitter in Germany and Poland has restricted access to a tweet by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, in which he lists the reasons why Ukraine “no one needs.”

The Twitter administration explained this decision by the requirements of the legislation of Germany and Poland. In turn, Medvedev’s assistant Oleg Osipov, in a conversation with RIA Novosti informedthat “it will not remain unanswered.”

April 8 Medvedev published on VKontakte, a Russian-language post about the reasons why “Ukraine will disappear” as a state. He shared a similar text in English on Twitter. Medvedev said that neither Europe, nor the United States, nor Russia, nor any other countries of the world, nor its own citizens need Ukraine. The politician also pointed to the “artificiality” of the formation of the state and called it “a misunderstanding generated by the collapse of the USSR.”

After that, one of the users accused Twitter owner Elon Musk of non-compliance with sanctions against Russia and wondered why Russian politicians still have access to accounts on this social network. The businessman was also asked to delete Medvedev’s tweet, but Musk refusedstating that people should “decide for themselves” what information to consume.

Commenting on another critical post, the Twitter owner stressed that the platform “will neither promote nor restrict” the accounts of Russian politicians, but attempts to “circumvent [правила] systems” will be suppressed. According to him, the introduction of censorship would be a “weak step”, while freedom of speech is a “show of force”.
