The Central Electoral Committee of the Gagauz autonomy refused to accept the criticism of the law enforcement agencies of Moldova regarding the organization of the election of the head of the region.
Earlier, the CEC of Moldova and the General Inspectorate of Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic stated that violations could have been committed during the organization of the first round. Chisinau’s claims relate to the fact that one-time cash donations of more than 11.5 thousand lei ($645) were indicated in the financial reports of the candidates. This is interpreted in Chisinau as a violation of the law.
The Central Election Commission of Gagauzia responded to these statements that it is guided by local legislation, which does not contain such restrictions.
On Sunday, the second round of elections will be held in Gagauzia, in which the candidates from the Shor party Evgenia Hutsul and Grigory Uzun, who is supported by the Socialist Party, take part.
On Friday, a rally was held in Gagauzia, at which demands were voiced to Chisinau not to put pressure on the election commission, and also not to interfere in the elections. As reported, representatives of the National Anti-Corruption Center, the Information and Security Service and members of the central office of the Central Election Commission of Moldova came to the Central Election Commission of the autonomy with a check.
