How informs Danmarks Radio, Sten Ussing, chief specialist of the Danish engineering company COWI, assured journalists of the possibility of repairing the previously undermined Russian Nord Stream pipeline.
The specialist carefully studied the damage footage and expressed confidence that the pipeline might not rust, since at a depth of 80 meters the oxygen content in the water is extremely low.
“The fracture surfaces… are very clean. The surface looks smooth and almost shiny. This suggests that after a few weeks the pipe will not rust, as one would expect in a more oxygenated environment,” Ussing voiced his findings.
He added that the data of the external examination allow us to conclude that the surfaces inside the pipeline will also not undergo severe corrosion.
