Not a single reason was found in Crimea for the transfer of the peninsula from the RSFSR to the Ukrainian SSR in 1954. About this declared Chairman of the State Council of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov.

He explained that a working group had been formed that was preparing a draft appeal to the Constitutional Court (CC) of the Russian Federation in order to recognize as illegitimate the transfer of the peninsula to Ukraine during the Soviet period.

“As a result, experts came to the conclusion that there was not a single reason for the transfer of Crimea from the RSFSR to the Ukrainian SSR. Including the version of the need for this transfer to restore the Crimea from the post-war devastation is also refuted, ”Konstantinov emphasized.

He explained that he considers it necessary to “state the insignificance” of these documents, although it is impossible to cancel “the impact of the acts of 1954, which distorted the fate of hundreds of thousands of people.”

The fact that the Crimean Parliament intends to appeal to the Constitutional Court became known in May. Konstantinov instructed the scientific council for lawmaking under the chairman of the State Council to work out the appeal. We are talking about the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR “On the transfer of the Crimean region from the RSFSR to the Ukrainian SSR”, issued in 1954.

Crimea was included in the Ukrainian SSR on February 19, 1954. It is believed that the initiator of the transfer of Crimea was the first secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Nikita Khrushchev. From 1938 to 1949, with a short break, he headed the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, that is, he actually led the republic. One of the explanations for the change in the “registration” of the Crimea was the difficult economic situation on the peninsula after the war.

Crimea became part of Russia again in 2014 after a referendum. According to its results, 96.77% of voters in the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% in Sevastopol were in favor of joining Russia. In 2015, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation considered the transfer of Crimea to Ukraine in 1954 unconstitutional.
